Breathe and unwind

Yoga for relaxation and stress management

This class combines slow, mindful movement with simple breathing techniques and a guided relaxation. It is designed to give you a dedicated pause in your week and practical tools you can use on your own.

Research summarised by the US National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health has found that yoga may help some people with feelings of stress. It is not a treatment for anxiety, depression or any other condition, and it is not a replacement for professional support.

Questions

Relaxation: frequently asked questions

Is this class a form of therapy?

No. It is a yoga class. It may complement other support, but it is not a treatment and our teachers are not mental health professionals.

Can I use the breathing techniques at other times?

Yes. Simple techniques such as slow belly breathing can be practised anywhere. The NHS also has a free guide to breathing exercises for stress.

What if I find it hard to sit still?

That is very common. The class starts with movement for exactly that reason, and you are welcome to keep moving gently or open your eyes at any time.
