Mobility and stretch

Yoga for flexibility: gradual, comfortable progress

This class focuses on stretching and moving through a comfortable range of motion. After a thorough warm-up, poses are held for longer so you have time to settle into them, with plenty of options to make each one more or less intense.

Flexibility changes gradually and differs a great deal from person to person. The aim is not to reach a particular shape, but to move a little more freely within your own range - patiently and without forcing.

If you have hypermobile joints, recent injuries or a health condition, ask a healthcare professional how to adapt stretching for you.

Questions

Flexibility: frequently asked questions

How long until I notice a difference?

It varies from person to person and depends on how often you practise, so we cannot promise a timescale. Regular, gentle practice tends to be more helpful than occasional intense sessions.

Should stretching hurt?

No. A mild stretching sensation is normal; sharp pain is a sign to ease off straight away.

How often should I stretch?

The NHS suggests flexibility exercises at least twice a week alongside strength and balance activities, building up gradually.
